Drawer 1

Yeah, that's definitely my number 1 group. That's the only group which has its own Drawer. Why? - I'm asking myself. Well, the first answer that comes to my mind is that I don't know any other group that would play similiar Music to The Cure, Music that involves my mind so much.
I remember exactly "my first time". Somewhere in 1989 I was sitting in my room listening to the radio with headphones on my ears. One guy (thanks Mr. Beksiński!) presented a whole discography of the band I had found at least suspicious (man with lypstick and such a hairdo?). Though I must admit I had based my opinion on the look of Robert, I didn't know their Music at all. And after each album presentation Mr. B. used to translate the lyrics into Polish with a strange disquieting song and hypnotic vocal in the background. Very long song... Hell, what a song! - I thought. I remember that I wasn't the only one curious about it. Many people wrote letters to the radio asking what album the song "kiss me goodbye" is from. And I exactly remember the answer of Mr. Tomasz - " :) The title of the song is not 'kiss me goodbye'. It's called 'The same deep water as you' and this is the song from the new album of The Cure 'Disintegration' which I will present at the end of the whole discography in a special edition of Romantycy Muzyki Rockowej (Romantics of Rock Music - name of his radio programme)."
Yeah, till today this song remains the most beautiful song I've ever heard in my life, so as 'Disintegration' is the most beautiful album.
More or less the same days I heard 'Fascination Street'. And similiar thing - this song, its bass line, guitars, power, together they all perfectly fit my mind waves. What's that? - I was wondering. This Music is so perfect..., so intense... I didn't understand it at all then. It was just a small grain put in my mind that started to grow and grow and grow. And it is growing all the time. I didn't have the smallest idea then what impact this Music would have on my life and that The Cure is gonna be my definite Music group number 1 forever (now I know it :) ). I usually don't use words 'always' and 'never', but here is the certain exception.
Yeah, later I bought my first Cure albums - 'Disintegration' tape with all 12 songs and 50 minutes of music in the same time (!) (Poland was a strange country as for music releases in those times). Then I went to Germany where I bought at random 'Pornography' and 'Head On The Door' on LPs. I had no idea about Cure discography, musical periods, anything. And I remember the first time I listened to 'Pornography' (strange, I don't remeber 'HOTD') - floor in my grandmother's room in Germany - whole family watching TV and me with headphones in the same room listening to 'Pornography' for the first time - perfect conditions, weren't they? Yeah, and it hit from the very first time. I didn't know why but I felt unsafe and lost after listening. This is not an average album, oh no - I felt. Nowadays I find 'Pornography' the best Cure album and 'Figurehead' the most touching point of it and the best song they have ever created.
Thanks to Cure I found my dearest friends - Marta, Stachu and Wiciu (I'm sorry man I lost you some place) and experienced lots of unforgettable moments. Some of them were of course The Cure concerts that I attended. For the first time I saw The Cure in Glastonbury '95, then came Katowice Poland '96 and three shows in '98 - Wiesen, Dresden and Brno. Now I look forward to see a couple of shows in 2000! Can't wait to see them again.
